December 2012 I am in Banff, Alberta, Canada at a residency at the Leighton Artist Colony in the Banff Art Center. I am continuing my project, "Capturing the Sun and Chasing the Moon". The project has involved getting as close as possible to the Arctic Circle to observe the extremes of the midnight sun and polar night. Today, is the shortest day of the year and in a few days the full moon will fill the sky for one last time this year. I am now looking for venues to exhibit the project and related work completed during this wonderful year of studying, light, darkness, and primal forces.
I enjoyed two residencies in Iceland this year, the first at Gullkistan in Laugavartn during the midnight sun and the second at Herhusid in Siglurfjordur for the month of November. The Herhusid residency provided me with the opportunity to exhibit work from the summer and study the moon from the northern most village of Iceland. The project, “ Capturing the Sun and Chasing the Moon” has been generously supported by the United Arts Council and grants from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro's, International Programs, The College of Arts and Sciences, and the Art Department.
